Raising awareness and aid for Type 1 Diabetes

Not everyone in the United States has access to medical care, and for people with diabetes who are insulin-dependent, this can be a life or death situation. My daughter is a Type 1 Diabetic, and I am swimming the English Channel to raise money to help other diabetics. The organization I'm raising money for is Mutual Aid Diabetes, a volunteer-run group of diabetics dedicated to caring for the community by connecting members in need with medication, insulin, supplies, and healthcare. I'm hoping to raise at least $100 for every mile I swim, or at least $2,100 to help people with diabetes.
Your support will make a direct impact. Donations will go toward purchasing insulin, medical supplies, and providing aid for people with diabetes who are struggling to afford the care they need.

Channel Kickoff Event & Movie!
Sunday July 19, 4:00 pm @ The ArtHouse Theater in Eugene, Oregon

I'll be attempting to swim the English Channel this summer in August 2026. This will be the 100th anniversary of Trudy Ederle's famous swim when she became the first woman (and 6th person) to successfully swim the Channel in August of 1926. Trudy has been my hero since I was about 10 years old.

Come hear about her amazing story, and how she inspired a young swimmer in Jacksonville Oregon (me!) in 1976 to dream of one day making the same crossing. I'll also talk about what is involved in swimming the Channel - a challenge of wind, weather, tides, shipping lanes, hypothermia, jellyfish, and complicated logistics. We'll have a kickoff celebration, hopefully raise some more money for Mutual Aid Diabetes, and I'll be hosting a private showing of The Young Woman and the Sea, a movie about Trudy's life and her iconic and record-setting swim. RSVP for either or both events (talk/kickoff and movie)
